Pocket watch winding
Typically there are 2 types of winding mechanisms incorporated in pocket watches: top wind and key wind. Top wind watches are always wound by turning the crown clockwise however key wind watches can vary, typically if the watch is key wound from the rear, it will be anticlockwise. If it is key wound from the front it will be clockwise. Some later going barrel key wind watches were wound clockwise from the rear but often had an arrow to indicate the direction.
Front wind fusee verge, wind clockwise
Rear wind fusee lever, wind anticlockwise
